On March 30th, House Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) led 100 House Democrats to re-introduce the Transgender Bill of Rights (H. Res. 269), a resolution recognizing that it is the duty of the federal government to develop and implement a “Transgender Bill of Rights” to protect and codify the rights of transgender and nonbinary people and ensure access to medical care, shelter, safety, and economic security. According to a press release, Sen. Markey (D-MA) is leading the companion resolution in the Senate, along with Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), and Tina Smith (D-MN).
Of note, ACA is mentioned by name in the legislative text of the resolutions in both the House and Senate versions, which are identical. ACA is included in a list of 20 other healthcare organizations, including AAP, APA, and AAFP, which endorse the “provision of best-practice age-appropriate gender-affirming health care.
