She starts her term as ACA president on July 1, 2020, after serving as ACA President-Elect from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020.
Dr. Pressman is a past president, treasurer and trustee of the National Employment Counseling Association (NECA), a division of the American Counseling Association. Dr. Pressman served two terms (2012 to 2018) on the ACA Governing Council as the National Employment Counseling Association (NECA) Representative. She also served on the ACA Executive Committee and as chair of the ACA Counselors Compensation Task Force.
An active member in the Maryland Counseling Association and the Virginia Counselors Association, Dr. Pressman also actively participates in the National Career Development Association (NCDA) and the Military and Government Counseling Association (MGCA), both of which are divisions of ACA.
Dr. Pressman is the president and CEO of Pressman Consulting, an Arlington, Va.-based provider of human resources services that specializes in solutions in the areas of career management and counseling, strategic workforce planning and development, training, mentoring, disability programs and organizational development. She is a founding member of the nonprofit organization Deaf & Hard of Hearing in Government (DHHIG).
She earned a PhD in Counselor Education at Virginia Tech, an MA in Rehabilitation Counseling at Gallaudet University and a BA in Education and Speech Pathology at the University of Florida.
The American Counseling Association is the world’s largest organization representing professional counselors in various practice settings. Founded in 1952, ACA includes 18 chartered divisions focused on areas of specialty or principles of counseling. The association’s more than 53,000 members worldwide participate in 56 branches in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. ACA also collaborates with counseling organizations located in other parts of the world.
