The bright blue bags, known as Sweet Cases, were decorated by ACA staff members and filled with a blanket, a teddy bear, personal care items, and a coloring book and crayons. The bags will be distributed to youngsters through a nearby foster care program, as part of an effort to replace the trash bags often provided for personal items at the start of a journey through the foster system.
The Sweet Case program is one of many outreach efforts sponsored by Together We Rise, a nonprofit organization created to improve the lives of foster children in America. Other Together We Rise projects provide bicycles to children and teens, college scholarships, mentoring support, and visits to Disneyland that reunite separated siblings.
The March 2017 issue of Counseling Today examines the role of counselors in a foster care setting. Learn more
