Dr. Marcheta Evans Elected As ACA's 59th President

Dear Colleagues:

Dr. Marcheta EvansACA Nominations and Elections Chair Brian Canfield and I are pleased to announce that Dr. Marcheta Evans has been elected to serve as the Association's 59th President. Dr. Evans has served as a volunteer leader at the state, regional, division, and national levels and has been dedicated to the profession and our organization for a number of years.

In addition to Marcheta, this year's field included the following candidates: Brad Erford; Michael Hutchins; and, Michael Lazarchick. ACA leaders and members appreciate those who were willing to run for office this year. The commitment of each of the four candidates to run demonstrates their desire to improve the profession, and that ACA is able to attract superior individuals who wish to serve.

There were more than 2,600 votes cast in this year's election for ACA President-elect. Marcheta will begin her term as President-elect on July 1, 2009 and she will assume the role of ACA President on July 1, 2010 for a one-year term. In addition to being the 59th person to serve in the role of President, Marcheta will be the 27th woman and the 4th African-American to be elected to the office.

Dr. Evans is the Department Chair and an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is the Immediate Past-President of the Association for Creativity in Counseling; Past-Chair of the ACA Southern Region; and, has served on a number of committees at the state and national level.
