B. J. Barksdale is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She is also a Licensed Child Care Administrator (LCCA). B. J. received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Indiana University with a concentration in Marketing and Finance and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. She has worked with the foster care population for over twenty years. B. J. is a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner. She is a Texas Child and Adolescent Needs and Strength (CANS) certified assessor. She is licensed to supervise LPC-Associates and is also an approved provider of Continuing Education training for LPCs and Social Workers. B. J. maintains a private practice in Katy, TX. She also serves as the Clinical Director for a residential children’s home in Houston, TX. Her passion is in working with children with trauma histories, helping them to process through that trauma, develop coping strategies to deal with the aftermath of that trauma, and to be able to visualize a healthy future for themselves.
For the past thirteen years, B. J. has held positions on the Texas Counseling Association Board of Directors. She has served as president of the Texas Counseling Association, president of the Texas Association of Multicultural Counseling and Development, and president of the Texas Association of Adult Development and Aging. B. J. is currently serving as a Division Director on the Texas Counseling Association Board of Directors. She also serves as the Southern Region Representative on the American Counseling Association’s Governing Council.
