Goals for 2012-2013

ACA-Southern Region plans to continue its momentum to build active participation and consistent leadership in each of our Southern Region branches through strategic planning, structured communication, and targeted mentoring.

Currently, four branches are engaged in a mentoring project, which will extend into next fiscal year. Next year, each Southern Region officer is also committed to providing telephone consultations, on a quarterly basis, at minimum, to three or four branches. In addition to our meetings at the ACA Conference and the Leadership Development Institute, ACA-SR plans to host quarterly virtual meetings open to all Southern Region Officer and Branch Executives to share resources, identify opportunities, and maintain connections.

Another ACA-SR initiative for the upcoming year is building a Southern Region Student Network, spearheaded by Patrick Mullen, who is a graduate student in Florida and active at national, division, and branch levels. One goal of this project is to build students' affinity to their professional association at both the national and branch level. By connecting students to other branches by engaging them at the region level, we hope to sustain their branch involvement, as they move from state to state.

No doubt, communication is critical to our success. Updates to the ACA-Southern Region website are already underway to make it easy for branch leadership to access useful information and documents. Additionally, the 2012-2013 Southern Region listserv is already in place.

ACA-SR officer travel is included to assure their full participation in region meetings at both the Leadership Training Institute in July and the ACA Conference in March. Travel is estimated at the most reasonable estimates we could identify after conducting research.

Strategic planning is the cornerstone of our organization. In July 2011, the branches within ACA-Southern Region began with a broad discussion of their goals and expectations from Southern Region and ACA. They continued in March to provide feedback on the mentoring project and identify specific resources they would like to access. Our plan is to continue this process in July by setting specific action plans to deliver those resources. Our success will be measured by the level of participation of ACA-Southern Region branches at the July and March meetings; by the number of calls completed and virtual meetings held; and by the depth of the leadership teams in each of our mentored states.

In summary, ACA-Southern Region is committed to providing support to the volunteers within our branches who are stepping up to leadership. Strong branches provide the roots that ACA needs to have an effective national agenda. The activities proposed in this request will build on the programs we initiated last fiscal year and expand the ability of our ACA-SR branches to provide the programs, benefits, and opportunities needed to attract members and promote leadership.

ACA Wins Two Hermes Creative Awards

The ACA Website Launch Video won a Platinum Award in the Video category and the ACA Website Redesign won a Gold Award in the Website Overall/Association category.
The ACA Website Launch Video won a Platinum Award in the Video category and the ACA Website Redesign won a Gold Award in the Website Overall/Association category.

Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals (AMCP).

There were about 5,600 entries from throughout the U.S. and several other countries in the 2013 competition. A look at the winners shows a range in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies. Awards are presented to those entries judged to exceed the high standards of the industry norm.
